Just before the COVID-19 lockdown, I got myself a new Richo GR3. A little nifty street camera. It's a new model of the GR series. I got it to replace my GR2.
The GR camera series is probably the worlds most favoured camera for street photography by photographers. It's a quality premium compact camera with a large sensor known as a C format camera. That's what gives it the hefty price tag of £800 (July 2020).
Well, today I had a chance to use it in Caerphilly. Caerphilly is a town in South Wales just north of Cardiff. The population of Caerphilly town is around 42,000. There is a statue of Tommy Cooper near the car park. Tommy Cooper was born in Caerphilly.
The weather was drizzly and dark for the time of day, but out we went. Started off with a lovely cup of coffee at a café named Coffe Vista, just by the car park. If you're into the three square mapping location, here it is. https://w3w.co/wanted.stir.turned It as a lovely outdoor seating area overlooking the Castle too. Recommend a visit if you're in the area.
If you're in Caerphilly, you have to photograph the Castle too. I went a step further and attempted to photograph the geese (I was going to use the word shoot) who gather on the castle grass area. Well, these little blighters don't like having their photographs taken. Some flapping of feathers and I decided to leave them alone. Not photographer-friendly unless there is food in the way of remuneration for them.
Unfortunately, the Castle was closed to the public today. Although I have been inside on numerous occasions photographing the dragon etc. A top-rated attraction for the tourist to visit. Trip advisor got 1,846 reviews of Caerphilly Castle. You can't please everybody. However, there are only 8 reviews who didn't like it. But I bet they photographed it.
Covid-19 is still causing some shops to limit numbers through the door. Masks are worn by some people, and the walkways have a one-way system in operation. For a Saturday morning, it was pretty quiet there. Not ideal for street photography. But I managed to get some photographs before the rain stopped play.
Few more shots taken this morning at Caerphilly town centre.
The street shots. Pretty quiet this morning.
