Wedding Photography Documenting the wedding of this lovely friendly couple was an absolute pleasure for me. The wedding took place on my birthday in August 2016. While I was taking photographs , I was blown away by the bride and her family when they presented me with a birthday cake. Considering all the mad rush and preparations for the wedding day , they still managed to remember me mentioning my birthday when they booked me about 9 month before the wedding date. Sherree was so nervous I thought she wasn't going to enter Llanharan church in Rhondda Cynon Taf for the ceremony. It was that close. Thankfully she overcomes her tension with the help of family and friends, and the wedding was a great success. Congratulations both and then you again for the cake. We had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Rachael and Matt at St Mary's Church, Risca. Followed by the reception at The Glen Yr Afon House Hotel, in Usk. On the 5th of August 2016. Rachael and Matt's wedding was a very relaxed day with a wonderful reception at The Glen Yr Afon House Hotel, Risca. The weather was very kind to us and the sunshine provided many opportunities for great photographs. The Glen Yr Afon House Hotel, Risca is a stunning hotel set in a peaceful location overlooking the River Usk and the Welsh mountains. We had a lovely day, thanks to the weather and to Rachael and Matt's fantastic wedding party. The weather was perfect for the photographs, and we were very lucky with the light. The wedding party and guests were all very friendly and helpful. The pleasant sunny weather followed us from the church in Risca to The Glen Yr Afon House Hotel in Risca. The sunny day provided plenty of opportunities to photograph the wedding party outside in the hotel’s lovely gardens from the afternoon up to late into the evening. This award-winning hotel is recognised as one of the best wedding venues in South Wales. Later in the evening the wedding party enjoyed a wonderful evening meal and dancing in the hotel's fantastic function room. I hardly ever go out without my camera. One afternoon in Porthcawl I was walking down towards the beach front and although I passed this anchor on many occasions, the light was just right and brought out the texture of the old rusting metal. I photographed it and a few days later edited it Black and white. Then I added 16% copper into the shadows. This give it an old image look but not sepia like the Wild West. Some days later I was looking at some images on ViewBug website and noticed a competition was running. The image was just sitting on my computer desktop so I uploaded it. Not expecting it to get anywhere near the top. But at the end of the competition (I didn't win) but got this message below: "Congratulations Jim Matthews Photographer based in South Wales UK. You ranked in the Top 10% of most popular photographers in 2016; you are part of what makes ViewBug such a special place!" For a casual late entry I was pleased to have come even close to this. I'm unable to find any information concerning the anchor. However, it is reported that Porthcawl harbour was a busy port in 1825 for coal exports. With the low cost of wedding insurance compared to the value of your wedding, it's something you should consider as part of your wedding budget. It's a policy that will cover you financially if something ruins your big day or it as to be cancelled or postponed. If you paid with a credit card for anything costing between £100 and £30,000, and something goes wrong you may be able to claim your money back from your credit card provider. Your home insurance policy may have some provision for weddings, or at least allow you to extend cover for a wedding. If so, check what is included. But why would you leave it to small print and chance if something goes wrong? A standalone wedding policy will cost in the region of £25 to £100 depending on the level of cover you require. The insurance will depend on your cover chosen and can cover the cancellation of your wedding if something goes wrong. For example, The cake, cars, or flowers not turning up. Public liability if you or your guests cause damage at the venue. The place closes before your wedding day after making a deposit. Not things we like to think about but genuine examples of wedding day concerns. So who supply this insurance? Just take a look on the internet and search for wedding insurance and pick a company that have a good customer feedback and been in business for some time. Call them and ask questions. It's a small price to pay.

Considered "cutting edge," the Cardiff City Asylum Hospital opened on 15 April 1908 and took ten years to build, costing £350,000 (about £37.5m in today's money). It closed its doors to patients 108 years later, in 2016. I was fortunate to document the closure of Whitchurch Hospital Cardiff during 2015 and 2016 by taking hundreds of images inside and out of the hospital for the Historical Society. The photos were then displayed at Whitchurch during their exhibition to mark its closure in 2016 and its 108th anniversary. Some images were later exhibited briefly in Llandough Hospital before the Historical Society used them again for publicity and further exhibitions.
