Wedding Photographer in Cardiff. Cardiff is a lovely city in South Wales and is the capital of Wales with a population of 400,00 million people. Some factoids. Cardiff attracts 2.1 million visitors each year to see the many attractions such as its castle. It's also ranked sixth in the world by National Geographic as a tourist destination, and known as the City of Arcades, with the biggest concentration of Victorian, Edwardian and modern-day indoor shopping arcades in Britain. So there is no wonder why Cardiff is a popular venue for weddings too. There are many beautiful locations in Cardiff to book your wedding day. I have been fortunate to have photograph in some of these beautiful locations with wedding couples who have booked me for the special day. Wedding Photographer at the Village Hotel Cardiff. • Wedding Photography during Covid-19 in Wales

Wedding Photography during Covid-19 in Wales Well, it’s no secret that the wedding industry is on its knees due to COVID-19. The level of information is also so confusing regarding weddings. It’s not even UK based information. You got the national news telling you one thing, then local news telling you another. So in an to attempt to clear some concerns the Welsh Government have posted regulations on line that can be read here https://gov.wales/coronavirus-regulations-guidance Under the Welsh Government guidance all guests and brides and grooms have to wear face coverings, but couples are allowed to remove them for a kiss, taking vows, and the first dance - as long as guests stay two metres away. Some pointers considering weddings and wedding Preparations What guidance is in place for beauty salons? The guidance is kept under review and we recommend that the industry continues to refer to our website for the most recent version. We continue to work with the beauty industry to ensure the guidance is clear and reflects appropriate ways of working’ When providing close contact services it is generally not possible to maintain physical distancing. As a result most service providers will need to wear some form of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a visor. You will also need to wear a face covering, and will be expected to provide contact details. So yes, at the moment you can go to a beauty salon but wear a mask or face visor. My hairdresser is open, can they now provide other services such as doing my nails? Yes, it is now possible for salons to provide multiple types of services. But again we strongly advise that treatments on the face should not take place at this time. Are all potential wedding or civil partnership ceremony venues now open? Yes, all premises that are licenced to conduct a solemnisation of marriage or the formation of civil partnerships can now open for wedding and civil partnership ceremonies. However this is subject to the need to take all reasonable measures to minimise the risk of spreading the virus on the premises. Are there limits to the number of people who can attend ceremonies? The number who will be able to attend a ceremony indoors will be limited by the capacity of the venue where it is being held, once physical distancing measures have been taken into account.   It is not affected by the general restriction on gatherings of above six people, and people are allowed to enter or leave areas with local restrictions to attend ceremonies (but not receptions). To ensure that the maximum number that can attend is observed attendance must be by invitation only. Are face coverings required in wedding and civil partnership ceremonies? Guests will need to wear coverings, but given the importance to couples of the ceremony and the level of risk involved, we consider it is reasonable for the couple to remove their coverings for a kiss, for taking vows and for a “first dance”, as long as other measures are in place to protect people attending the ceremony from the risk of contracting coronavirus, for example, guests staying 2m away from the couple at all times. Wedding Photography during Covid-19 in Wales What are the rules on holding receptions? A reception for up to 30 people can take place outdoors or, where the wedding takes place on or after 22 August, indoors. Where the reception takes place indoors, it will need to take place in regulated premises (such as pubs, restaurants, hotels or community centres) and there are limits on the type of activity that can take place – for example loud music should not be played, and any food provided should be served at the table rather than at a buffet. These guides may differ in other parts of the UK, or change in a matter of weeks. Please see the relevant guidance on weddings and civil partnership ceremonies.

Most often, these images will be taken without you noticing them happening. Below is a small sample of what we usually capture during your wedding day. Taken at Llancaiach Fawr Nelson during the ceremony. Taken at the lovely Cottrell Park Golf Resort near Cardiff. Someone is not happy with the taste of the wedding feast. Captured at a wedding in the Bryn Meadows Hotel and Golf Club These are just some of the wedding day fun and emotions taken during the wedding day and captured at a wedding in the Maes Manor Hotel Blackwood. An image of guests having great fun that the bride and groom can often miss on the day. Captured at a wedding at the Ridgeway Golf Club in Caerphilly I didn't get too close to this little one :) Captured at a wedding in Caerphilly. This photo was taken at the lovely Miskin Manor near Cardiff. Her father didn't really punch her in the face. He was explaining a story, and the bride was laughing. The bride's mother is capturing a few steps at Llancaiach Fawr near Nelson. I must admit, I do love photographing weddings at Llancaiach Fawr. Cheeky Bridesmaids at a wedding in Blackwood. All taken in good fun. Kids waiting patiently for the sweet cart to open in the Blackwood area. The bride knows he is nervous on the day. Taken at the Park Plaza in Cardiff. Not all the images are presented in Black and White. We shoot the image in colour. These are then edited on a high-spec computer with specialist editing software. If I think the image will look better in Black and White, I convert it to Black and White. Some do look good in their natural colour. Here are a few sample colour images. During the ceremony at a church in Cardiff Carried away at a wedding in Pencoed House Cardiff The little bridesmaid could not wait to get her hands on the Yogurt "again". This was the first time she was covered in it. Thus, the absence of her dress. Just imagine showing her this photograph in 20 years :) Guests join in with the wedding fun in Blackwood. Evening guest at a wedding in Pencoed House Cardiff trying her best to belt out a song - with very little success. Bride and groom arriving at Oldwalls Hotel in the Gower. Last minute hair check before entering Ystrad Mynach Church. Bride and Groom at St Martin's Church in Caerphilly The mother of the bride with the famous Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd. The wedding will be held at the Angel Hotel Cardiff. Let's dance the night away at Maes Manor Blackwood. OK, it would help if you now had an idea of what documentary-style photography is all about. It's capturing the hard-to-repeat candid moments. Just like a news reporter. That's why it's sometimes also called a Photojournalism style. The images are mostly taken without reference to the person looking directly into the camera. Like they do in the movies. Of course, there are always exceptions at any wedding I photograph. If the bride wants some images of themselves, family, and friends, I will take them for her. I will also take portraits of your family and friends if they want them. They are often looking their best, so why not? But they will be taken quickly, with minimal interaction or direction from me. Here is a small sample of these type of images. Cake cutting is usually the exception the couple would like to pose for. Taken at the Barn in Pembrokeshire. The bride wanted a magazine-style shoot and arranged for access to Stradey Castle Llanelli near her wedding venue at Oldwalls Hotel in the Gower. The confetti shot is usually another favourite in good weather. Taken at Ramada Resort Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel & Spa in Usk Most couples who hire me for their weddings are looking for a "hands-off" photographer with minimal interaction from me. • Photographers without Frontiers

James Matthews Joins the national ‘Photographers without Frontiers’ initiative to say thank you to the NHS We are pleased to announce the launch of ‘Photographers without Frontiers’ and be part of this exciting national initiative to raise much needed funds for the NHS. Launched by Ronan Ryle and internationally renowned photographer, Damian McGillicuddy, ‘Photographers without Frontiers’ sees over 100 photographers from all over the UK come together to offer families a chance to capture a precious image of their loved ones and at the same time raise funds for the NHS. James from Eyes2Me Photography commented ‘With everything that has been going on over the last few months I wanted to give something back to the NHS and show our appreciation to them. I sometimes feel they do not get the recognition they truly deserve for what they do for our country. The ‘Photographers without Frontiers’ is a great initiative to be involved with, what we ask is for people to make a minimum donation of £10 through our just giving page to the ‘NHS Charities Together’ and in return they will receive a voucher from us which entitles them to free outdoor portrait session with myself and a web image for them to use online saying they have supported the NHS.’ ‘People really recognise the importance of capturing special moments of our loved ones, children, family and pets, which is why we thought as photographers we should all come together in what is a very competitive industry and make a difference to a special charity . We want to give something back to the communities in which we live and work, along with raising these vital funds for the wonderful work that the ‘NHS Charities Together’ carries out.’ ‘NHS Charities Together’ play an important role in contributing to provide services that are above and beyond what the NHS alone can provide. They are also a forum for nationwide fundraising and advocacy campaigns, offering specialist advice and guidance and bespoke training, as well as access to online resources for those who need them. ‘Photographers without Frontiers’ aims to bring together a community of photographers, from Scotland to the South Coast, with just two aims; support ‘NHS Charities Together’ and ensure families have a fantastic image to enjoy for years to come. One thing for sure is that social distancing has reminded each and every one of us, that only a portrait can bridge the distance and time until we are able to see and spend time with our loved ones. If you’d like to know more about “Photography without Frontiers” or you wish to donate, please check out the national web page: https://donate.photographywithoutfrontiers.co.uk/supporting-our-nhs-heroes1590011591170

  • Whitchurch Hospital Cardiff

Located on the outskirts of Cardiff, Whitchurch Hospital stands as a testament to the rich history and cultural significance of the Welsh capital. This iconic institution served as a mental health facility for over a century, leaving an indelible mark on the local community. In this blog post, we will delve into the intriguing history, architecture, and impact of Whitchurch Hospital, shedding light on its enduring legacy. Whitchurch Hospital Cardiff The hospital reportedly took ten years to build and cost £350,000 in 1908. That's about £37.5 million at today's equivalent value. It was built as the Cardiff City Asylum to accommodate 750 patients. The hospital is set on five acres of grounds and is a self-contained institute. A Brief History: Whitchurch Hospital, originally known as the Cardiff City Asylum, was constructed in 1908 to address the growing need for mental health care in South Wales. Designed by the esteemed architect William Frame, the hospital's imposing Victorian Gothic architecture is a sight to behold. Over the years, it has evolved from a hospital accommodating hundreds of patients to a modern mental health unit focused on rehabilitation and community care. Architectural Marvel: The intricate design of Whitchurch Hospital showcases a blend of Gothic and Tudor architectural styles, creating an awe-inspiring atmosphere. The grandeur of the building, with its towering spires and elaborate stonework, reflects the prevailing architectural trends of the time. Despite the hospital's primary purpose, the architectural beauty of Whitchurch Hospital has earned it recognition as a Grade II listed building. Contributions to Mental Health Care: Whitchurch Hospital was pivotal in the evolution of mental health care in Wales. In its early years, the hospital adopted pioneering treatment methods, such as occupational therapy and music therapy, to enhance the well-being of its patients. As mental health practices evolved, Whitchurch Hospital adapted its approach, focusing on community-based care and outpatient services. Today, it continues to provide crucial support to individuals struggling with mental health issues. Cultural Significance: Beyond its medical importance, Whitchurch Hospital holds great cultural significance for the people of Cardiff. The hospital has been a backdrop for various creative endeavours, including literature, film, and art. It has inspired numerous artists, writers, and photographers who have sought to capture its haunting beauty and explore the complex narratives surrounding mental health. Conclusion: Whitchurch Hospital stands as a symbol of Cardiff's commitment to mental health care and its architectural heritage. Its rich history, stunning architecture, and contributions to mental health treatment have left an indelible mark on the city and its residents. Working with the Historical Society in Cardiff, I had the pleasure of Photographing the end of Whitchurch Hospital Cardiff. I photographed most areas of Whitchurch Hospital just before its closure in black and white to capture the texture and history of this great building. The only exception is the photograph of the front of the building, which is often used in publicity publications by the historical society. I’m glad I got involved and excited about what I’ve done for the historical society. This was a labour of love for me as someone who enjoys taking pictures. And it turned out to be a lot of fun, too. I feel very honoured to have played a small part in documenting this hospital in Cardiff. I have had exhibitions with some of the images at Llandough Hospital and again at the Barry Centre. Who is the Historical Society? The Whitchurch Hospital Historical Society is a small group of individuals who meet monthly to preserve and publish information and artefacts relating to Whitchurch Hospital in Cardiff. It is a unique hospital with a fascinating history. Since Whitchurch Hospital closed to inpatients, the Hospital Historical Society has been collaborating with various organisations, such as Cardiff University, on small-scale Whitchurch Hospital exhibitions. The Whitchurch community has been left wondering what will happen to its old psychiatric hospital since it closed its doors in 2016. The council rejected plans to build houses and business offices due to significant objections from residents. However, the rejection was overturned in 2001 by a planning inspector, and permission has been granted.

  • Wedding Photographer at Caldicot Castle, South Wales

It was during September 2019 that I had the pleasure to photograph a fantastic couple. Greta and Daniel. Greta contacted me during January 2018, and we arranged to meet up in Caerphilly. She told me of her plans to have the marriage ceremony at Caldicot Castle and then on to Brecon for the reception at the lovely Barn in Brynich Brecon. We chatted for a while - and I listened to her explain her wedding day plans for me. She was very enthusiastic, and it sounded a lovely event that I just wanted to be part of. We agreed that I would photograph her wedding the following year (2019). We kept in contact until finally, the wedding day arrived. I arrived early at Caldicot castle to look around and check my cameras etc. It was a lovely day with plenty of sunshine. Greta is a graduate art student and made most of the wedding decorations and table layouts etc. The stunning locations worked well with her artistic flair. • Planning your wedding day

Planning Your Wedding day Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the exciting world of wedding planning! According to internet experts, the average wedding costs during 2019 was a staggering, eye-watering, astonishing  £31,974. See my other blog post on costs. Weddings remain incredibly rare occasions, and as such, you'll naturally want yours to be as perfect and memorable as possible! Most couples will start to plan their wedding about a year before the date. However, this is becoming more and more difficult with most venue's and professional services such as the photographer, are now booked up to 24 months in advance, especially during summer months. Are you planning a summer wedding? British summertime begins on the last Sunday of March and ends the last Sunday of October. If you're planning a summer wedding on Saturday, this will give you a window during 2021 of only 14 Saturday to choose. Are you planning a July or August wedding? Then this will give you a choice of only nine dates to choose. Why did I choose the year 2021 instead of 2020? It's unlikely you will get your preferred venue and services providers such as your selected photographers, cars, DJ and Bands etc. For example, I'm fully booked for July and August this year (2020) and already have confirmed booking for the summer of 2021. So essentially, you need to start making them bookings as soon as possible. And don't hang about parting with the deposits. The majority of suppliers and venues will not make a reservation unless a deposit is paid to them. If you've started to plan or consider your wedding, you may have already developed some ideas and inspiration, but with so much work and planning is often involved. Yes, you can hire a wedding planner, but that's another expense you will need to factor in. There are several web sites and planning apps that can help take some of the pressure of you to arrange this magical day that you have planned in your mind's eye. The key to a smooth-running wedding day is in the planning. You don't have to go overboard with it, but get the basics sorted and it will be a big help. Keep it simple? Set yourself a realistic budget for your wedding Draw up a guest list Appoint bridesmaids / Best Man Book your venue (based on the number of guests) Book your photographer and other suppliers Take out wedding insurance. It's a small price for your peace of mind. Decide on the dress and bridesmaids outfits Order your invitations Order wedding cake Book your make-up artist and hairstylist Congratulations. You have made a start on planning your wedding.

  • Your Wedding Day Budget

When you're planning a wedding - the couple (and family who sometimes chip in,) will usually have a budget in mind on the expenditure for each part of the wedding day. ON THE DAY. Wedding Dress for the bride (£1,000 +) Dress for bridesmaids (£1,000 +) Hair and Make up for the bride and bridesmaids £300 +) Hire Clothes for the groom and best man (£300+) Cars (£500+) Church / Venue (£5,000 +) Seat Covers / Decorations (£500+) Catering / Drinks (£4,000 +) Table Decorations (£800+) Wedding Cake (£500 +) Wedding Flowers (£500+) Entertainment, Band / Disco (£1,000+) So you are looking at around £15,000 minimum just for the actual wedding day. The cake is eaten, the flowers will die, cars are gone home, the venue is cleaned ready for the next bride, table decorations are carried off by guests (some vanish into thin air) Etc. • Wedding Photography at Crug Glas, Country House Haverfordwest West Wales

On the 5th October 2019, I had the pleasure to photograph the lovely wedding of Rachel and Jake at The Parish Church of Saint Mary Roch, in Haverfordwest. Beautiful church that was made all the more special as she was married by her uncle. Just as well, as the bride was nearly an hour late. He was very understanding, though. So was the guests. They half expected it to happen. The harpist played some lovely music during the arrival of the bride and during the ceremony. The church was full of friends and family, and you could tell from the onset this wedding was going to be a blast of fun and laughter all the way. Following the ceremony, we stopped off at the beach for some photographs before heading to the reception venue. This pebble beach made for some lovely photo opportunities. The sky was cloudy, giving as a more dramatic look to the images. We then headed off to the 5-star Crug Glas, Country House Haverfordwest. Just off the A487 between St Davids and Fishguard. Crug Glas is a country house and restaurant in Pembrokeshire. Not far from the historic city of St Davids. https://www.crug-glas.co.uk Food was stunning and plenty of it. I know because the lovely couple arranged for me to have a meal at the bar. Most of the images were in a candid style with some group shots and private moments of the couple. The couple just had a blast all day. The evening disco and band rounded the wedding party off well into the nigh-time, possibly early hours of the morning. I honestly lost all track of time. The bride and groom also give me a lovely surprise gift of an engraved whiskey flask. Thank you both. It was my pleasure to photograph such a great couple. This wedding was chosen by South Wales Wedding Magazine to be featured in May 2020 edition. #Haverfordwest #weddingphotography #WeddingPhotos #Brideandgroom #JournalisticPhotography #SouthWalesPhotography #CanonEOSR #photographs #Internetphotographs #Fishguard #StDavids

  • Wedding Photographer at Cottrell park, St Nicholas in the Vale of Glamorgan

Kath Whatley married Timothy Keeble on 8th August 2018 at the lovely Cottrell Park Cardiff in the Vale of Glamorgan. Colour scheme of the day was a lovely Blush pink /Sage Green with a hint of champagne, vintage and natural. Kath and Tim met three years ago at the ice rink. Kath went to learn to skate. Tim is a coach there. They became friends first and got on so well things just clicked. Ten months later in October 2016 Tim proposed. He chose the ring without her knowing. he proposed at a starbuck whare they had thier first date. He arranged fir the same music, coffee and parking space. While he distracted Kath he pulled out the ring and proposed. I asked Kath what was it that attracted you to choose this wedding venue. "We had been to see a few and all were underwhelming, we wanted quite a relaxed but beautiful venue, an excellent background for pictures that was big enough for our guests to be comfortable, all at a reasonable price". They both decided that Cottrell park Cardiff was that place for them. "From the first meeting, the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. We were able to customise the wedding package to suit us, and the place was just beautiful and picturesque". Kath said that they wanted to add a personal touch within thier day, and so most of the special touches were handmade. Favours: These were a mixture of personalised sweets, and each guest had a log chip with their name on to take that doubled as a place name. I made activity packs for the children with their names made out of crayon cubes. Guests also had a personalise wooden pencil with our names and the date on. Table plan: Tim and I made this himself as a project from an old pallet. Fitted in wth the theme of rustic, vintage very well. Centrepieces: Kath decorated mason jars herself and painted mini easels to put handmaid table numbers on. Made from wood chips, A good friend of Kaths Sarah Davies, sourced the cake stands and the log slices for the table centres Flowers: Cottage Garden Florist. Gordon supplied all of our flowers, fresh, bridesmaid and bride bouquets, buttonholes, table settings and registrar table arrangement, Cake: Kaths beautiful friend Lucy Deacon made her wedding cake as a wedding gift, and it was utterly stunning. Place names: As mentioned these were wood chips (supplied by another beautiful friend Sarah Davies) that Kath burned peoples names into. Table names: They had numbers written in chalk pen onto wood chips. Venue décor. Kath sprinkled petals down the aisle and had bay trees at the top of the aisle. Kaths younger sister painted her a tree on canvas that was thier guestbook-everyone added a fingerprint to the tree. Kath also made the rustic card box out of an old picnic basket. Kaths mum Julie also worked very hard on providing all the sweets for thier sweet table. Transport: Another good friend David Brake provided them with a beautiful wedding car as a gift for the day. One of Kaths favourite moments was going for a ride after the ceremony, just the two of them Catering options: Spiros Caterers provided the wedding food and a lot of the guests commented: "best food they've had at a wedding". "The harpist for our ceremony was a huge hit, very relaxing and a nice touch to our ceremony and drinks reception:. Looking the part Kath wore a Mori Lee 1903 dress in champagne with Handmaid jewellery (bracelet, necklace, earrings).Veil- Cathedral length with lace detailing by the same designer as the dress Groom and Groomsmen all matched exactly – very smart! The three bridesmaids in sage green and three in blush pink. All wore a chiffon sweetheart full-length dress with a corset back -straps added. The two flower girls matched the bride in an ivory/champagne style dress with lace top. Memorable moments •How did you both feel on the day? Calm and excited and happy •What parts stood out for you the most? The time just me and Tim had in the car after the ceremony, looking back I remember sitting on the top table just looking at everyone and I remember thinking all these people are here cos we love them, and this will never happen again- how awesome is this. •Any funny stories or memorable anecdotes from the day. I forgot my wedding dress the day before, and Alison and Danni had to go and get it for me. •Who/what made your day extra special? E.g., a friend's speech/ supplier that went above and beyond? All the friends that helped us. Sarah Davies, Lucy Deacon, Michelle and David Brake. My best friend Danni Hier who made sure it was about me and her speech made me cry... supplier who went above and beyond to make me feel good would have to be Leanne who did my makeup- she was a star both before and on the day. Honeymoon "We went to Rivera Maya in Mexico for just over 2 weeks, Tim planned it, and it was bliss. We went only a few days after the wedding, and it was so lovely just to have that time together. Amazing"! Wedding Tip "Don't stress the small stuff, it doesn't matter in the end– take a moment to make it all in". • The Wedding of Jodie and Rob at the lovely Canada Lodge and Lake Cardiff during a sunny August in 20

It was my pleasure to be invited to capture the wedding of Jodie and Rob at the lovely Canada Lodge and Lake in Cardiff in August 2018. There is also accommodation at this venue utilised by the Happy Couple and some close family. Again it was top-class. The weather was kind to us all day, with no rain in sight. Which further enhanced what was a magical day for the Happy Couple and all who attended the wedding. Both Jodie and Rob were Keen to have images that reflected the day. I'm a photojournalist style of photographer, and this was discussed before the special day. Jodie also wanted some family shots and a group shot. We did this with minimal disruption to the wedding party. No wedding photograph lists. No big lights or shouting instructions for poses. Just natural light and a single camera light were used during the wedding. We started at around 11:30 am when the bridal party arrived and checked into a beautiful lodge overlooking the lake. Shortly after, the groom and his party arrived and checked into their accommodation. Out came the beer cans to calm the nerves. Though the groom stuck to soft drinks until after the ceremony. Some images of the day include the priceless reaction of the bride and groom during the ceremony. "Can't thank Jim enough for the fab job he did at our wedding. The photos are outstanding. Would highly recommend Jim to all future couples getting to married". Thank you so much x. Jodie & Rob (31 Aug 2018) #CanadaLodgeandLake #Photo
